I hadn’t checked my yahoo mail in a while and just now, I remembered I that I had better do the honors before they cut me from their lives. So,
Not a single mail from my IM-loving, Orkut-embracing Two-Facebooked friends!Instead I had messages from over a dozen trolls... some even in multiples! My spam had spilled over to my inbox!! So much for paying to stop spam. Pooh! :D
There were epitomes of nonsense saying:

At the risk of repeating myself., Seena WHO??? And why on earth why I would want to know if we like the same books? I don’t even do that with my close pals.

I normally don’t check my spam. But that day I was expecting a mail (which never came, come to think of it). So I went it to that unexplored domain of my mail box and stopped. Stunned.
Loud lines screamed at me, 'Hey dude macadamia! Want to enlarge you p**is? Want to give her a good time in bed?'
"Hell no 'Dude'! Forgive me but I have to ever so humbly decline your gracious offer.
I don’t have a p**is, but even if I did you’d be the last person I’d want to go to for advice."
What’s with these annoying spam mails? Each one presenting a wilder theory than the next, while assuring limitless fantastic sexual ‘promised lands’ than ever before.
I was curious :D I wanted to click through, just to see where they want to lure people to. But then I didn’t in the end, lest my computer falls prey to my indiscretions. Virus is not my cuppa tea.
But that made me wonder. Imagine if someone, say a young kid, gets a similar mail. Forget clicking through, the very fact that he might read the garbage is revolting.
Is there a solution?

Clearly such mails are a waste of time, space, energy.....but the worst part is that some of the emails that I get from my friends by default end up in the spam folder on yahoo.....

Maybe you should turn your spam OFF! I sound like it works. I turned mine OFF once and God help me, I got like 1000+ spam mails in my inbox! I wasn't told before I turned my spam ON again the next day!
I am used to getting BULK mail filled with such meaningless mail and I don't bother checking it, I just empty it on a daily basis!
On a second thought, why are they sending that P* stuff to your mail box? You have an explanation to make! LOl!

I guess the simple solution is not to go into the SPAM folder. It's like rummaging through stuff in your garbage bin. (Wish I hadn't visualised it while writing it)
Life used to be horrible before the SPAM filters when all these emails will make their way to the inbox.
The only way to cut it out is to be very discreet about giving out your email.
You might want to wash your hands with Dettol now that you've gone through the garbage :P

Seriously man!Yahoo seems to b the king of spam!! Its so damn irritating to c those stupid mails inundating the inbox. And the worst part is they dont even knw of one is a male or a female coz they send mails like do u want to enlarge ur pe*is and at the same time there r mails like "make him happy, increase the size of ur b**bs"! Isnt it truly ridiculous!? Thankfully gmail has not been struck b the spam bug so far.
There is no solution. You can create custom filters and reduce the quantity of spam that you get, but that's pretty much all you can do.
P.S. I noticed that you haven't mentioned the Viagra e-mails in your post ;-)
some spammy thingie cloned my whole orkut account with the photos too.. and am scared now.. locked the album finally..
look at it this way...some poor chap is having to first mow a lawn, then dry the grass...powder it and mix it with steroids so that his master can make tons of money to sponsor some political candidate...while half the s/w engineers are busy trying to ensure that the spam goes through spam filters and the other half trying to make sure it doesn't...and then some school kids who will read the spam mail will use the powder to find out that for girls a good time in bed doesn't necessarily mean a powered up tubewell...will pick up a gun go shooting...wherein some police chap will come on the scene and advise parents to spend more time with their children to teach them about life...and in will step a few shrinks to counsel the students and parents alike...
and u want to take away employment from all these people...sheesh we are breeding such anti social elements on blogger now :P

well...now that I read this post, I am reminded of an article about a Trojan which sends random invites and spams to all those in your address books...More so it sends such spams and invites to ppl who r there on u r friends lists in Social Networking sites...spam is something like CRAP...just as CRAP cannot be eliminated from this world so cannot be spam I guess...best solution about kids thing? Do not get them an e-mail id until they r of age or mature enough...though something like that is literally next to impossible! :P

thnakfully, i get very less - almost nill - spam in my yahoo id. but my G mail gets a lot of them, and I just clik on empty spam.. if any real mail got trapped there, then it will be flushed... no mercy.
(and cn u belive this month my salary slip some how fell into thge outlook spam folder and i flushed it out? and it took me whole 10 days to realise that i havnt recived my salary slip... but still i say - itz betetr than gng through all teh garbage...)

i know.. gmail aint all that better. but i normally skim thru the spam folder in yahoo, coz sometimes yahoo pushes genuine mails into the spam. of course, those r mostly fwds.
Spam is an interesting field of thought.Irritating, sure. But interesting. Through the eyes of a spammer, the net is a goldmine. They EXPECT a high strike rate anyway, so people like you and I are mostly expected to simply delete and go. Their play is numbers. For every ten thousand people who turn down the offer/ advice/ help requests, if they get just THREE OR FOUR gullible people who follow through, that's good enough for them...
Sometimes the intentions are rational... Like some irritating marketeer trying to sell an actual product that works... Doesn't justify spamming, but at least he's better than the other characters...
Some just want to sell spurious/ fake/ harmful products, hide behind trivial legal loopholes hidden in some notices. Dirty rotten leeches... But still better than...
Some people... who are downright conmen, trying to hunt for gullible people to swindle. Like the advance mail fraud scheme, in which people are enticed into investing in a scheme to launder money for some alleged dictator/ exiled minister of someone, in return of promised fortunes... You can read about cases in wikipedia. Many people have gotten bankrupt over similar cases.
And then we have the pranksters. They just need to keep track of how many people they were able to con... Most chain mails do not ask you to spend money... just to propogate junk email. I guess it's a matter of personal pride or something...
And just a note. Google seems to do a lot better at identifying spam. Yahoo needs to get smarter.
Spam is here to stay. No way out of it. Better algorithms by mail providers can help reduce the strain, but it's not going away. The productive way out is to use YOUR way... make fun of it... See the humor in the ridiculousness...

Some time back my inbox/spam box got so infested with these "increase size" offer mails that I got paranoid that there must be something wrong about... umm... u know...:D which i dont know about. And after a few days the frequency of those mails suddenly decreased... and i dont know, i got relieved. :P ;)

I guess there is some age criterion while joining any mail/website/blog or what-so-ever. "Hopefully" these spams and spammers are selective about who they catch.
On the tail note side, what will happen if this "enlarging mail" goes to a 60+ year old man? ;-) Just kidding!
